The HHS Commando baseball team took the district title this week as they defeated Beech 5-0 and went 4-0 in the district playoffs.

Victories like the one Tuesday (May 10) are nothing out of the ordinary for the stellar Commando lineup, which has captured the district trophy for the first time since 2015.

“We want to be playing graduation night,” said senior Lawson Alder, “then we will just push on to the state games.”

The Commandos begin regional play at home Monday (May 16) as they look to move closer to the state tournament.

Asked about the strengths of this year’s team, Assistant Coach Justin Martin said, “The pitching is definitely our highlight along with hitting. We have many amazing pitchers as well as hitters.”

Hendersonville has kept a strong record with only a couple hiccups throughout, according to Coach Martin, and the team's 25-9 record reflects this.

The program will lose many seniors to graduation, but Coach Martin said he is excited to see what lies ahead for these students.

“I haven't had much time to reflect back on this season, but I have definitely learned a whole lot from the team,” the coach said.
